I knew David in the 1960's when he was working with at Gaveston Hall in Sussex as a groundsman with an apprentice named Mark I believe. He was a gentle, kind and generous man. Always struck me as being a true humanitarian and true human being. He would talk about his love of the outdoors, and of his sailing background. He would confide about difficulties with and concerns about his father, Very sorry to have learned of David's passing.
